Express Entry is an electronic immigration process that the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website uses to offer Permanent Residency (PR) statuses to immigrants. This is a more accessible and straightforward process that helps eligible candidates get to Canada quickly.

Types of Express Entry programs
There are three Express Entry programs you can apply to, based on your qualification and work experience.
Canadian Experience Class is a program that helps immigrants who are currently studying or working in Canada get permanent residency in the country.
- Do note that you cannot apply for a CEC program if you are:
- A refugee claimant
- Working in Canada without getting a temporary resident status
- Working in Canada without proper authorization
Here are the requirements for applying for the CEC program.
Work Experience
- You must have skilled work experience in any one or more of these job groups.
- Managerial Jobs (skill level 0)
- Professional Jobs (skill type A)
- Skilled trades or Technical jobs (skill type B)
- You must have at least one year of full-time work experience or equivalent part-time work experience
- Must have gained Canadian work experience while on temporary resident status
Education
- There are no educational requirements for the CEC program. However, if you have an academic degree, certificate, or diploma from Canada or any foreign country, your CRS scores will improve.
Language
- There are two approved tests for the FSTP program to measure your language ability. The level of these tests varies based on the group of jobs you hold.
- There are four approved test levels for the FSTP program to measure your language ability.

This is a program for skilled workers to immigrate to Canada permanently. The requirements are as follows.
Work Experience
- You must have professional work experience in any one or more of these job groups.
- Managerial Jobs (Type 0)
- Professional Jobs (Level A)
- Skilled trades or Technical jobs (Level B)
- You must have skilled work experience within the last ten years in the same type of job that you use for your immigration application.
Language
- To be eligible for the FSWP program, you must have reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities in English and/or French.
- There are two approved test levels for the FSWP program to measure your language ability.
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 – English
- Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) 7 – French
- You must get minimum scores in both these tests to pass eligibility.
Education
- You should be submitting the following details to prove your educational qualification.
- A degree completion certificate
- An educational credential assessment (ECA) report (to prove that your degree matches that of an equivalent Canadian degree)
This is a program for skilled trade workers to immigrate to Canada permanently. The requirements are as follows.
Work Experience
- You must have skilled work experience in any one or more of these job groups.
- Industrial, electrical, and construction trades (Major Group 72)
- Maintenance and equipment operation trades (Major Group 73)
- Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production (Major Group 82)
- Processing, manufacturing, and utility supervisors and central control operators (Major Group 92)
- Chefs and cooks (Minor Group 632)
- Butchers and bakers (Minor Group 633)
- At least two years of full-time experience (or equivalent part-time work experience) in the relevant field
- Relevant work experience within five years of application
- Meet job requirements for Skilled Trade specified in the National Occupational Classification
Language
- To be eligible for the FSTP program, you must have reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities in English and/or French.
- There are four approved test levels for the FSTP program to measure your language ability.
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 – English speaking and listening
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 – English reading and writing
- Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) 5 – French speaking and listening
- Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) 4 – French reading and writing
- You must get minimum scores in both these tests to pass eligibility.
Education
- There are no educational requirements for the FSTP program. However, your CRS scores will improve if you have an academic degree, certificate, or diploma from Canada or any foreign country.

Proof of funds and fees
When you are invited to apply for Express Entry, then there are two financial aspects that you should be aware of.

There are three Express Entry programs you can apply to, based on your qualification and work experience.

Proof of funds
Proof of funds is proof that you have enough money to travel to and settle down in Canada, even if it takes a while to find a job. After you receive an invitation to apply, you must give written proof that you have enough liquid funds with you. Both Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program require you to offer proof of funds.
Exceptions
- People applying for the Canadian Experience Class program
- People who apply with a valid job offer
Things to Note
- You cannot borrow money from someone else. You should be in a position to use the money.
- Equity of properties doesn’t count as funds.
- The funds must be available when you apply and when you receive the PR visa.
